2012 VOLUNTEER GENERAL INFORMATION
Whispering Pines Golf Club
April 26-29, 2012
WHO:
The Big 12 Conference Men’s Golf Championships is one of the most prestigious college golf tournaments in the nation. All ten universities will be represented. University of Texas is the host. 

WHAT:
The primary competition is the Team title (each school team will be comprised of five players).  The lowest four scores per round from the five player team will be used. There will also be an Individual competition. The lowest individual score over the 72 hole competition will be the champion. The ten lowest finishing scores receive All-Big 12 honors. 

WHERE:
Whispering Pines Golf Club, located outside Trinity, Texas on a 300-acre wooded property bounded by piney woods and beautiful shoreline vistas will be the tournament course.  Designed by Chet Williams of the Nicklaus Design Group, this 7400-yard layout is ranked as the #1 golf course in Texas by the Dallas Morning News.

PARTICIPATING:
Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech.

PARKING:
Designated parking areas have been assigned for Volunteers. 

Volunteer parking will be located in the General Public parking lot just inside the front gate at Whispering Pines. Please follow direction signage. Parking shuttles will be in operation from one hour prior to scheduled tee times through one hour after play concludes.

TOURNAMENT
FACILITIES:
Whispering Pines Golf Club Clubhouse: Access to the clubhouse will be limited to coaches and players and tournament staff.  Due to the size of the clubhouse, no volunteers will be permitted to enter.

Concessions:  Located at the cart pavilion- will serve a variety of food and beverage items for lunch (Thursday through Sunday).  There will be picnic tables located adjacent to the concession area for seating purposes.

Tournament Merchandise:  Located in the cart pavilion - will be open to the public.  Tournament T-shirts, men’s and women’s golf apparel, hats/visors, golf balls, towels, and much more will be available for purchase.

VOLUNTEER
UNIFORM:
The official volunteer uniform will be black slacks or shorts (furnished by volunteer) and the Adidas-Green colored Whispering Pines logoed shirt worn for The 2011 Spirit International.  All volunteers will be provided official headgear, a cap or visor. Golf caps and ladies visors will be issued at volunteer check-in starting on Thursday April 26th. No other headgear may be worn with the official uniform. If outerwear is needed the Adidas- Black colored Whispering Pines logoed jacket must be worn.

VOLUNTEER
CHECK-IN/  
CHECK OUT (IMPORTANT):
All volunteers must sign in at volunteer headquarters (located at the Volunteer Parking area) when they arrive for their shift. At the conclusion of each shift, the volunteer must sign out with Volunteer Administration at the shuttle tent located in clubhouse parking lot. 

There will be no credit for the shift if a volunteer fails to sign in/out. During tournament week, please call your respective Volunteer Chairperson with any concerns.

VOLUNTEER
FOOD & BEVERAGE:
Coffee and donuts will be served at volunteer check in from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

For lunch service volunteers will receive a lunch voucher. The lunch voucher can be redeemed at the public concession area at Whispering Pines. Those volunteers working on course (marshals and leader boards), your lunch will be delivered to you at your assigned hole. The lunch voucher includes choice of sandwich, chips, fruit or cookies and a soft drink.

Complimentary water and soft drinks will be available throughout the day. Volunteers are not permitted to consume alcoholic beverages during their work shift.

VOLUNTEER
BENEFITS:
All volunteers who work a minimum of three shifts or more will receive one golf voucher to play Whispering Pines Golf Club. Any volunteer who works six or more shifts will receive an additional golf voucher.  All Big 12 volunteer golf vouchers will expire on December 16, 2012.  There will be two golf outings (to be held on Friday, September 7 and in December (TBD)) where volunteers can redeem their golf vouchers or these vouchers may be redeemed on any Sunday after 1:00PM (based on availability.)  The outing will include green fee, cart, range balls, on-course refreshments, box lunch, awards reception and prizes.
