October 27th 2010 - Brandt Kieschnick has found the winnerís circle of a Southern Texas PGA tournament twice this year.
His first trip to the podium came last February, when he and Dean Choate teamed up to win the STPGA 9-Nine-9 tournament. His second trip to the top was a solo affairó Kieschnick won the TaylorMade-adidas Golf-Ashworth Match Play Championship, held at Whispering Pines Golf Club (Kieschnickís home course), taking a 3&2 win over Carl Cooper in the finals to secure the top spot and $1,200 in winnings.
The finals victory was Kieschnickís third in a row by a 3&2 margin. He had beaten Larry Courtney by the same margin in the semi-finals after taking a 3&2 win over recently crowned STPGA Professional Championship winner Brad Lardon in the quarterfinals.
Kieschnickís first- and second-round wins came over Casey Edmonson (8&7) and David von Hoffman (2&1), respectively.
Cooper, who won $800 as the tournamentís runner-up, defeated Lonny Alexander 7&6 to reach his half of the semi-final match against Kieschnick. Cooper opened the tournament with a 2&1 victory over Kevin Batton, and followed that with a 2&1 win over Chuck Silva in the second round and defeated James Brown in a 21-hole quarterfinal match.
Ryan Polzin won the Championship Bracketís consolation event and $600, taking a 2&1 win over Jeremy Ice.
Steve Parker captured the top spot in the Senior Division of the tournament, taking a 4&3 win over Garry Rippy for $800 in earnings.
Parker took a 19-hole win over Carl Baker in the semi-finals, an 8&7 win over Ralph Harris in the quarters after a first-round bye.
Rippy, who beat Marty Fleckman 1-up in the opening round, David Lundstrom 2&1 in the quarterfinals and Mark Steinbauer 2&1 in the semis, won Senior Division runner-up money of $500.
Gordon Johnson finished atop the Senior Consolation Bracket following Jeff Cooperís concession of that battle, taking home $450.
